Skotan S.A., the owner of the Yarrowia Canifelox product line, was the first in the world to implement technology of culturing and production of fodder yeast based on the unique Yarrowia lipolytica A-101 strain using natural raw materials. This strain is characterized by the ability to metabolize atypical carbon sources, production of organic acids, vitamins, bioactive substances and by high proteolytic and lipolytic activity. Yarrowia lipolytica fodder yeast, based on fats, is an excellent source of protein with optimal amino acid composition, B group vitamins, valuable micro and macro elements in easily digestible organic form, active substances such as selenomethionine, selenocysteine, alpha-ketoglutorate, citrulline malate, kynurenine acid.
Yarrowia lipolytica yeast protein is particularly valuable due to the high content of lysine, a very important amino acid for balancing the diet of animals. Taking into account the amino acid profile of these yeasts, the high content of phenylalanine, valine, tryptophan and isoleucine is noteworthy as well. In addition, yeast protein has a high biological activity reaching 80%.
Taking into account the lipid profile of Yarrowia lipolytica yeast, the presence of unsaturated fatty acids is remarkable. They constitute as much as 91.79%, of which 57.68% are monounsaturated fatty acids, and 34.11% are polyunsaturated fatty acids. Yarrowia lipolytica yeast fat contains about 28% linoleic acid, while the content of α-linolenic acid belonging to the omega-3 group sets about 10% of the total amount of fatty acids. Unsaturated fatty acids are digested more easily than saturated fatty acids. This is due to the greater ability of such fatty acids to form micelles, resulting in easily absorbtion by the gastrointestinal tract.
B group vitamins are essential ingredients for young animals. Yarrowia lipolytica yeasts are especially rich with these vitamins. They have a high content of B1 and B2 vitamins, biotin, folic acid, nicotinic acid, choline, and niacin.
Yarrowia lipolytica yeast also serve as a perfect prebiotic due to the high content of glucan and mannan within the cell wall, showing affinity towards specific bacterial adhesins. The prebiotic action of Yarrowia lipolytica yeast is particularly useful in diets of animals facing complications after weaning, stress, and diarrhea.
Yarrowia lipolytica yeast can also stimulate the body’s immune system. It is due to the presence of glucans within their cell wall, compounds that stimulate the reticuloendothelial system response. Yeast beta-glucan serves as a modulator of the cellular and humoral response of the organism.
Skotan S.A. production plant, located in Czechowice-Dziedzice, was launched in 2011 as part of a project co-financed with EU funds. The fully automated production line together with the testing and auxiliary infrastructure, including a professional research and quality control laboratory, enables capacity of 600 tons of products with diverse functionalities and multi-directional nutritional applications per year.
The production plant is certified for applying HACCP and GMP procedures and for releasing feed for animals, granted by veterinary supervision authorities. At the same time, the plant is under constant supervision of certifying and approval institutions, thus meeting the highest feed and food safety and quality standards.
The uniqueness of the product is guaranteed by the Yarrowia lipolytica A-101 strain and the patented production technology. During yeast biomass culturing, proper environmental conditions (including aeration, pH, temperature) are adjusted, yeast nutrient composition is modified, and yeast metabolism is driven to obtain biomass with the most desirable amino acid profiles, rich with properly selected active ingredients, including micronutrients (Zn, Se, Mg, K, Ca, Cr, Fe, Cu), vitamins (from B group such as B1, B6, biotin, folic acid and B12), unsaturated fats and other.
Fatty acid esters are natural, safe, concentrated, possessing high bioretention, ensuring the highest reaction efficiency and preventing premature excretion from the body. Traditional 3, 6 fatty acids as triglycerides decompose faster compared to esterified omega 3 fatty acids, when high plasma concentration is reached about 12 hours after administration.
Technology developed by Skotan S.A. comprises a 4-stage product purification system, which allows removal of any unwanted substances that may remain in the oils during processing, such as residual pesticides, cyanogens, dioxins, heavy metals, microbiological contaminants or glycerol. A unique feature of our production facility is that the process is carried out entirely under the so-called “nitrogen blanket”, meaning the product has no contact with atmospheric oxygen during production. The product goes to the final packaging – dark, glass bottles saturated with nitrogen as well. The use of nitrogen blanket guarantees exceptional protection against oxidation that causes undesired changes in taste and smell. Our product also contains a natural antioxidant – vitamin E, which additionally protects the product against oxidation. Without this antioxidant shield, even optimal amounts of health-promoting omega-3 acids could be harmful instead of being beneficial.
Preparations based on fatty acid ethyl esters occur compose of 100% CIS isomers promoting health. It is known that a great number of double bonds significantly accelerates the oxidation rate of these acids. Consuming partially oxidised fats does not bring beneficial health effects but what is more can promote disease processes. The entire production process of our esters is monitored in terms of quality, starting from delivery of the oils ending with packaging of the finished product.
